
Curriculum
SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta follows the Indonesian national curriculum, known as Kurikulum Merdeka. Their curriculum highlights tradition and emphasizes religious values, knowing that most of the population in Indonesia is Muslim. The school has adapted it to incorporate Islamic values and character development.
Kurikulum Merdeka was introduced by the Ministry of Education and Culture in December 2019. The curriculum focuses on holistic development, balancing academic excellence with character building. Aside from learning from textbooks, there is also a strong effort to instill values such as discipline, empathy, religiosity, and integrity.

The teaching plan for teaching in English education subject at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta is designed under the Kurikulum Merdeka, utilizing a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach in a single session there is 1 hour with multimedia resources. By the end of the lesson, students should be able achieve the learning objective of the discussion. The lesson begins with a 10-minute introduction, including an ice-breaking activity and stimulating questions to connect prior knowledge. The 60-minute main session involves watching a video, taking a diagnostic test, engaging in text analysis through a PowerPoint presentation, and working in group activity. The session concludes with a 10-minute reflection, summarizing key takeaways, followed by a reflection sheet. This approach promotes active engagement, critical thinking, and language development through multimedia, collaboration, and problem-solving
