Teaching Methods
In my observation of Ms. Yu's class, I noticed a variety of effective teaching methods that she employed to engage her students and enhance their learning experience. To begin the lesson, Ms. Yu used an ice-breaking game as a warm-up strategy. This was an excellent way to motivate the students, helping them to relax and get into the right mindset for learning. Ice-breaking activities like these not only boost students' enthusiasm but also create a more comfortable and interactive classroom atmosphere. After the warm-up, she transitioned smoothly into the discussion phase. Ms. Yu utilized the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL)approach, a strategy that connects the lesson to real-life contexts and encourages active participation. She grouped the students into pairs and assigned each pair a specific topic. The students were then tasked with discussing their assigned topics and presenting their ideas in front of the class. During these presentations, Ms. Yu listened attentively, provided feedback, and elaborated further on the key points. What stood out to me was her implementation of a student-centered teaching method. By allowing the students to share their knowledge freely with the class, she fostered a sense of ownership in their learning. This approach not only builds students’ confidence but also enhances their communication and critical thinking skills. Following the presentations, Ms. Yu conducted a Question-and-Answer session to evaluate the students' understanding of the lesson. This strategy was particularly effective as it helped her identify areas where students excelled and aspects that needed further clarification. To reinforce the lesson, she provided the students with a worksheet. After completing the worksheet, students were asked to present their answers to the class. This final activity not only encouraged active participation but also helped consolidate the students' learning through peer-sharing and collaboration.
